Sunday 12-30-07 Reflections

I cannot believe that today was the last Sunday service in 2007.  What a great day we had today.  We challenged our church family with making right and wise decisions in 2008.  We are all one decision away from helping or hurting ourselves so we better be careful of the choices and decisions we make.

We unveiled a few things.

  1. We rolled out our Espresso Machine and handed out free mocha and latte's.  Way to go Tamar Allen!!  (our resident expert barrista :-) )
  2. Heather Zeamer rolled out the concept of a 2008 prayer calendar.  We're going to upload it on the website sometime this week.  We loved it!
  3. Victory Church University kicks off next Sunday AM.  I'm pumped about that!
  4. Club 56 rolls out their first activity for 5th and 6th graders.

Help me out, what are some of the things you LOVE about Victory Church?

Needless to say - we're moving ahead!  I am currently writing out my  goals for 2008.  I'll be sharing them with you guys in the near future!  What are your 2008 goals?

I love you guys!  Thanks for partnering with us!

Reflections of 12-23-07 & Christmas Eve

This past Sunday was a fantastic day!  The place was almost packed ... I'm not sure, but we may have to look at doing 2 services next year.  This Sunday morning we finished up our Christmas series and watched as MANY hands responded to he message of the preached Word of God.  I pray that the Lord will SET PEOPLE FREE!

Then we had our Christmas Eve service and we went real "organic" this year.  Again, it was almost a packed house!  Clark & Robin Adams led in Christmas Carols, Elissa Seaburg sang a song, Courtney Seaburg sang in public for the first time (she did awesome!)  I read he Christmas story in chronological order (which was very cool.)  Our kids director read "How the Grinch wants to steal your Christmas" that was written by Glenn Procopio; and then we had family communion.  It was a very cool service.  We heard a lot of wonderful testimonies on how many people brought friends, relatives, co-workers to the service.  They all heard a very clear message of the birth of Jesus and why He came.

I love our church.  People showed up early to set-up, people brought cookies to share, people stayed around and fellow-shipped ... I'm telling you, if I didn't go to this church ... I would go to this church!

What was your favorite part about this weekends services?

Our Seaburg Christmas Traditions

Okay, now that this is our 20th year of marriage ... that means we've had 20 Christmas's together ... we officially have CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS!  Here's a few of our favorites:

  1. Alway a Christmas Eve service ... c'mon, I'm a Christian ... what did you expect :-)
  2. Cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning (gotta be Pillsbury)
  3. Homemade blueberry oatmeal (Pam is crazy good at making this!)
  4. First one up on Christmas morning gets to stand in the middle of the room and yell at the top of their lungs, "Merry Christmas!!!!"  (You should've seen me this morning ... I bounced out of bed so fast!)
  5. Read the Christmas story BEFORE we open the gifts.  (I always cry when I start to read it, in honor of Pam's Uncle Harold.)
  6. One of the four kids is the "Santa" and hands everyone their gift to open.
  7. We open ONE GIFT AT A TIME!
  8. Kids all get brand new jam-mies to sleep in on Christmas Eve.

Let me know what some of your Christmas traditions are.  Hey, have a Merry Christmas, and eat some oatmeal!

Looking Forward to This Week - 12-23-07

December 20, 2007

This Sunday - 12-23-07

Hey, this week is very special. Do your best to bring people to church this week.  Call that co-worker that you know has been struggling, contact someone that you haven’t seen awhile, call that family member or close friend that you know has been struggling in forgiving and moving on from past hurt.

I am wrapping up our series on “Surviving the Holidays” and this week we will discuss what it takes to move on, past the pain of hurt. Let’s make this week a banner week!  Rick Warren said, “If you are not growing the church and bringing new people to the Lord you are telling them to go to Hell.”

Let’s give our all for the call.

  • Christmas Eve service this week from 6-7PM.  We're gonna have a "hint of Grinch" that night.

Cool Guy - Garret Barbush

God is up to something.  We preach it a lot around here ... "Our Goal Is Not A

Big

Church

- Our Goal Is Big People."
This morning I sat across the breakfast table at Lyndons and listened to

Garret

, a rugged, athletic and stylish 20 something year old, as he shared the journey the Lord has him on.  A self-described business owner, wrestling coach, passionate server of Christ and lover of people.

Here’s what

Garret

said, “I'd like for each of you to click on this link and watch the video and read the story.  It's been a story that was introduced to me several months ago, and it has really changed my perspective on life and the country we live in.  After many emails and finally meeting Brad backstage at one of his concerts in

Philadelphia

, it looks as though I may be heading down to

Nicaragua

in the first week of March with Brad and his team from Love, Light and Melody.  The important thing about this is to just get the story out in the open.  People in our society need to know about this.  After you're done with this please check this one out. Forward this on to people who can make a difference.

God is alive and well in the hearts of people who want to hear and want to know.  God is raising up a generation of people who are sick of living out their Christianity within the four walls of a church building. Way to go,

Garret

!  Today bro, you are my hero!!

Get involved in missions.  Every 2nd Sunday, we’re giving our church people opportunity to bring and give their 2008 Faith Missions Pledge. This is just another opportunity to reach the world!

Free Jesus!

It's time for us, as Christians to FREE JESUS!!  C'mon man, I am so sick and tired of "church."  We as the church have penned up, handcuffed, crammed in a box, and have chosen to fall into a traditional, easily managed Jesus where we pick and choose what we will and will not put into practice to what we hear on a Sunday service.  We as Christians are SO PREDICTABLE, it ticks me off!

It bugs me, I want to be honest.  Man, I am so hungry for the anointing of God on the preaching of the word of God.  I want the Lord to radically change not a community ... I want Him to change a single person ... ME!

I want to read the words of God and put them into practice.  i want to allow the Word of God to transform my mind.  I want Jesus - nothing more, nothing less.  Our culture wants to have the spiritual conversation.  All you have to do is watch Oprah or Dr. Phil.  People want to have a spiritual conversation, they just don't want to have the Christian version of spirituality.  So what do they do?  Read books like "the secret" that takes about that inner spark inside all of us.  The new preachers in our culture are people like to the Dalai Lama, Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, Eckhart Tolle and Oprah.   In case you didn't get the memo...Jesus is not part of the public dialog on spirituality - we've ceded that ground.

We have got to get to quit just going to church and start being the church.  Test the Lord in the tithe, dare to pray for the healing of a fellow employee at work, take a chance -- trust God!  Want a great book recommendation?  Start reading "Static" by Dr. Ron Mortoia.

  • What if Jesus was once again public property?
  • What if following in the way of Jesus involved more than right beliefs?
  • What if followers of Jesus led this movement and took the spirituality of serving public?
  • What if Jesus was seen as the founder of a movement that serves others - instead of one that judges others?
  • What if the Jesus movement got out of the beliefs business and back into the serving business where it all started?

Free Jesus!

Couple Things I'm Pumped About

Here they are - I couple of things I am pumped up about:

1. 2008 Missions Pledge

I am thrilled!  The people at Victory pledged to give $49,052 to missions.  That is HUGE!  We are praying for someone to to take the lead in our Missions arm of the church.  It'll happen.

2. Christmas Eve Service

I love this night.   Reflective, intimate, family-oriented and Christ-centered.  And it's one hour!  Yippee!!

3.  Money Series

I'm getting testimonies by the buttload (I mean "truckload") of how Christ is speaking to people's hearts regarding finances.  Okay people, let's not just listen, let's put it into practice!

4.  Christmas Break

Pam and I get some uninterrupted days with our 3 girls and boy (that we like to call "the man-child!")

5.  Dallas Cowboys are 12-1

30 Years as a fan and this has to be one of the most exciting year yet!  No band-wagon jumper here, I'm a lifer!

6.  Small Groups

We've got great leaders in Devon & Monica and this ministry is really gaining some organization and momentum!

7.  Oldest Daughter Made A GREAT Choice last weekend

We are very proud of our olderst daughter that made a tough choice this weekend, but she wanted to honor God!  She did, and we are proud of her for that!!  Go Elissa - Go!!

8.  Our Kids love church

Hey man, not every person can say that!  Our four kids love God and love people!  We have the greates kids on the planet!  Pam, you're an awesome wife and mom!

9.  God is moving in people's lives

I get emails, letters, phone calls!  It is AWESOME!!  So much so that we started a brand new thing at our church where we will take time each week to get to know a new family in the church!

Random Thoughts from Sunday - 12-9-07

Wow, what a great weekend.  Here are a few thoughts before I head out to help some friends:

    • A huge THANK YOU to everyone that helped decorate our building this past week, to everyone who helped out with our Christmas Banquet and One-Stop Shop ... what a HUGE success.
    • I loved the camaraderie and fellowship that was taking place at our biggest Christmas Banquet ever.  What a great church we have.
    • I'm amazed at the talent of people like Lyn Kirkland that painted a HUGE mural on our kids room wall.  It totally changes the atmosphere in the room.
    • Why don't we have a basketball league?
    • This new series "Christmas Is For ..." is gonna be huge -- I can feel it!
    • God.  Man, I love the Lord so much!
